As you know, the thought of dealing with cancer is a frightening one. Sadly, as you probably know, individuals who are diagnosed with cancer are more likely to beat the disease when it’s caught early. This is also true when it comes to oral cancer. Fortunately, if you are careful and observant, there are a few things you can do to identify cancer—and a few things you can do to reduce your risk of getting cancer.

There are some people who are predisposed to oral cancer while others are not. For example, women are less likely to get oral cancer than men. Similarly, the odds of getting oral cancer greatly increase after age 44. Sadly, there is nothing you can do with these scenarios. However, there are things you can do to decrease your odds of having oral cancer. You see, habits such as drinking alcohol and smoking increase an individual’s chances of having cancer. Similarly, exposure to sunlight and your diet can affect your odds of dealing with this disease.

However, there are a few signs you can watch for. For instance, if you have a sore throat that doesn’t fade after a few days, notice discoloration in your mouth, experience numbness of your mouth or lips, feel a lump form, or notice a shift in the way your teeth fit together, you could have oral cancer. However, if you notice these symptoms, please don’t panic. These symptoms can also be caused by other issues.
