When you’re trying to take care of your smile, one of the last things you probably think about is whether or not you’re using the right toothpaste. After all, they’re all the same aren’t they?

Actually, they’re not. The right kind of toothpaste can mean the difference between a healthy mouth and a very health mouth.

So to help you make sure you’re using the right kind of toothpaste, our team here at Merrill Ranch Family Dental Center recommends you look for the following things when toothpaste shopping.

ADA Seal

The American Dental Association is the group that approves new dental procedures, sets rules, and encourages best practices among dentists. If a toothpaste doesn’t have the ADA seal of approval, then it hasn’t passed their rigorous testing standards.

Anti-gingivitis ingredients

Another must in your toothpaste are ingredients that stop the spread of gingivitis. Gingivitis is actually a very mild form of gum disease, and can cause red, swollen gums that bleed easily. If that happens to your gums, you need a toothpaste with anti-gingivitis ingredients.

Fluoride

The myths about fluoride are debunked. It’s good for your teeth, has been proven time and time again to prevent cavities, and even strengthens the enamel of your teeth.

Dr. Cameron Blyth has his preferred toothpaste, and if you want to find out what that is, please call us today at 520-413-9714. We’re happy to answer that, and any other questions, you may have.
